Community and History Meet at Zocalo

Zocalo’s diverse neighborhood community, affordability and proximity to downtown, shopping, restaurants, and sports centers make it today’s ideal central location. But the area is rich with yesterday’s history as well.
Just steps away from Zocalo’s central plaza is Denver’s seven-acre Jefferson Park. Dedicated in the early 1900’s Jefferson Park was named after President Thomas Jefferson, the founder of the Democratic Party.
This area became part of the incorporated Town of Highlands when Denver City and the city of Auraria merged in 1861. Highlands was founded as an elite suburb, a residential community where men would work their days in Denver and retire for the evenings to their families and the cooler, fresher air of the Highlands.
The area’s diversity reflects turn-of-the-century Irish, German, and English immigration and, following World War II, an influx of Latino residents. Homes spanning the decades, from the turn of the Century to the turn of the Millennium, can be found throughout the Jefferson Park and Highlands neighborhoods.
Zocalo Condominiums, its plaza, its architecture and its location, are designed with neighborhood and community input to continue the proud traditions and history of the Highlands and Jefferson Park communities.
Jefferson Park's newest residential development is RiverClay Condominiums, www.RiverClay.com.
